Swiss mountain cableways use digital solutions from Pricenow

Pricenow’s digital and integrated solution of a fully automated pricing software with modern data analysis tools and a pricing-optimized webshop lead to an improved profit situation and enable the individual approach of different customer groups with different willingness to pay.

Pricenow’s customers include well-known mountain railway companies in the regions around Verbier or St. Moritz. In the Upper Engadine, Pricenow has been relying on Dynamic Pricing for two years now: last season, 70 percent of guests booked their multi-day tickets in advance via the booking platform, while the proportion of day tickets was 15 percent.

“Dynamic pricing enabled us to motivate guests to book earlier and increase the average length of the ski pass,” says Michael Kirchner, Head of Sales and Communication at Engadin St. Moritz Mountains AG.

On Niesen, the Board of Directors laid the foundation for a digitalization strategy in 2018 – Pricenow subsequently developed a comprehensive webshop solution. The Pricenow webshop covers the entire value chain of the Niesenbahn: Guests of the Niesenbahn can book their ticket as well as mountain experiences, accommodation or restaurant reservations online.

The Niesenbahn is satisfied with the experiences made so far: “The experiences are positive throughout”, says Niesenbahn managing director Urs Wohler.

The Corona crisis is also hitting the mountain railroads hard – the offices of the mountain railroads are looking for solutions for the summer and winter season. At the top of the priority list is the question of how to minimize queues at the cable car stations. The Niesenbahn has also addressed this question and Pricenow has without further ado developed a capacity management system that helps mountain railroads to control capacities. In addition, Pricenow’s pricing algorithm allows to keep the expected visitor rush fully in view. At any time, visitors can see all available capacities and offers of the cable car and the mountain restaurant on the website and can thus plan their visit to the mountain.

“This is just the beginning,” Urs Wohler is convinced.

In the future, he says, the company wants to integrate the solutions even more closely in order to generate more capacity utilization. Pricenow’s management also sees enormous potential in the mountain railway industry: Digitalization has gained a big head start due to the Corona pandemic.
